About Vattavada
Unveiling Kerala's organic highland agricultural settlement, misty shola peaks, and slow travel heritage.
A Patchwork of Step Farms & Mountain Mist
Unlike the rest of Munnar's landscape which is dominated by manicured tea estates, Vattavada is a striking agricultural valley. Located at the eastern border of Idukki district, this mountain enclave has terraced fields cascading down slopes, growing colorful rows of cabbages, red carrots, garlic, butter beans, and sweet strawberries.
Vattavada has a unique, cold climate year-round. It enjoys clean skies, mountain breezes, and morning mist that blankets the entire step-cut landscape. The village culture is a rich, warm blend of Malayali and Tamil heritage.

Agricultural Experiences
Strawberry Harvesting
Between November and February, the hillsides come alive. Many local farms happily welcome tourists to step into the fields and pluck ripe strawberries straight from the patch.
Hands-on Farming
Interact with the farming community, learn about rain-shadow agriculture, watch traditional irrigation, and help harvest carrots, cabbage, and organic garlic.
Local Products
Purchase organic farm produce directly from fields, and bring home jarred local strawberry jams and home-brewed sweet strawberry wines.

Pampadum Shola Wilderness
Acting as the misty gateway to Vattavada, the Pampadum Shola National Park is the smallest national park in Kerala. It shelters ancient evergreen cloud forest ecosystems (Shola forests) and a cold, high-altitude climate.
Nature enthusiasts can spot rare wildlife like the endangered Nilgiri Marten, leopards, Indian Gaurs, and colorful moths on guided forest paths managed by the forest department.
Panoramic Viewpoints
Stop at Vattavada Beauty Viewpoint at the entrance to watch the morning mist slide across Step Farms, or hire a local jeep to climb the off-road trail to Pazhathottam Peak for clear border vistas.
Slow & Responsible Ecotourism
Vattavada is built for slow travel on foot, overnight star camping under clean skies, and gentle hikes to spots like Chilandhiyar waterfalls, while respecting local agriculture and wildlife guidelines.
Our Responsible Travel Promise
Vattavada's micro-climates, Shola ecosystems, and farming communities are fragile. Please pack out all plastics, do not trespass onto crop terraces without farmer consent, and stay on designated wildlife paths.
